As a lot of you know (or don't know), World of Warcraft's first expansion, The Burning Crusade, is coming out January 16. Last night at the Video Game Awards the cinematic trailer for the game was shown publicly for the first time. www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2247I know, I know, you guys who don't play WoW probably won't get it, but the trailer is cool nonetheless (although Spike TV didn't do it justice by continually cutting away from the footage to show the orchestra and the audience).

WoW looks sweet, but i want to devote my time to ffxi. I already dont play it as much as I should, and unless I banish my RL, I wont have time too.

Our RAIDING guild has allready stopped raiding, for all intents and purposes, just because 1) the gear will be outdated shortly after the expansion comes out in a month and 2) you can PVP to get gear comparable or better than the gear we were getting in BWL and AQ40 rather easily with the new honor system. We're still trying to do BWL and Onyxia every week though...but we aren't raiding in full force like we did pre-patch.
Yeah, that patch day pretty much changed WoW forever...the "old" game is gone in preperation for the expansion.

thats so lame that they're raising the level cap so long after the original release. That means that all that lvl 60 gear you've worked so hard is now out of date and useless!
Good Job Blizzard >.>;

Yay for pointy ears and turnin' people into sheep :3 That was pretty slick lol Tho I do agree with Taru >< Seems pretty sucky that all your work for months or years is suddenly goin' to the pits. Granted, SE just did somethin' similar The new Salvage gear is so godly all other gear pales in comparison, but never-the-less, not like the old gear is gonna be 20 lvls out of date or anything =/

The level cap really has nothing to do with it...they've always released newer and better gear. Every MMORPG does it, not just Blizzard. Welcome to the world of MMOs where they try to get you to play and be interested in playing as long as possible.

Welcome to the world of MMOs where they try to get you to play and be interested in playing as long as possible. Ok ur saying it like FF doesn't do that... and u know that's a load of crap. SE does enough. The raid armor sets won't really be useless anymore, they'll just change from raid set to solo set. In an interview I saw the pres of Blizz said that with the lvl increase from 60 to 70 solo players would be able to do the high end dungeons aswell. Instead of using 40 lvl 60 ppl u will be able to do it with a lot less lvl 70 ppl.... more like 10 or 15 men. This will make the armor available for the solo players aswell. It will still be a lot better then the normal armor pieces that will drop from mobs.

I think you misunderstood what I said. All MMOs do that. And the raid dungeon cap in the WoW expansion is 25 people. There will be a few 10-man raids, as well. You will still need a well coordinated group of people to take them down. Their difficulty is very much increased over the current dungeons, in terms of boss strategy and class flexability. Its highly unlikely that you will be able to PUG (pick up group) end-game raids post-expansion just like you can't PUG Naxxramus now. CURRENT 40-man raids will stay the same, in terms of difficulty. This means that less people at level 70 will be able to come back and maybe do, for example, MC and BWL with 20 people instead of 40, but there will be less reason to do that at level 70 because the level 70 blues and greens will be much better than level 60 epic gear. Trust me, I know, I've been playing Burning Crusade beta for the last two months. Nothing will change, the raiding guilds will still dominate the end-game scene, the solo player will still complain about not being able to have access to those without an end-game guild, etc. The only wildcard is the 5-man "heroic difficulty" dungeons, which require exalted rep with certain factions to run, and a long quest chain to complete (kind of like Ony, w/ Rep).

All I'm sayin is that your armor is gonna be so out of date, no one is gonna like it anymore. All your hard work has gone to the can. SE at least released their endgame and near the end. Even though the new salvage armor is godly, its not like the old stuff is bad either. I still drool over af2. I wouldnt drool over a PLD 10 lvls lower than I and his Iron Musk Armor. I seriously think you should quit WoW's endgame the second they annouced the increased lvl cap. Old raids were a waste of your time.

They're only a waste of your/my time if you didn't enjoy them, and I enjoyed every minute of them, not for the gear, but for the encounters themselves. Learning them, working on our own strategies and setting off fireworks in IF when we won. THAT'S what made them fun and worth my while, not the gear I got from them, that was just a side bonus.
In fact, our guild still plans to continue raiding AQ40 and Naxxramus (which we were going to shift our focus to anyway) after the expansion comes out just to experience that content. Besdies that, the gear from those later current end-game dungeons will last you until you get new end-game gear at 70. And, isn't that all that you use gear for anyway? To last you until the next upgrade?
You're not looking at the big picture Taru. A lot of people have been in that gear for months or years (in the case of BWL, ZG, and other older dungeons) and they need something more to push for or they might just quit the game, and that's what expansions are for. People have known the expansion was coming for well over a year. It was first announced in October 2005. Do you think people would have continued raiding if they felt it was a waste of their time? I highly doubt it.

see and this is why CoP is such a beautiful expansion compared to Burning Crusade.
They made it hard to get to CoP's endgame as well as made it challanging to get the armor. Sure CoP may have been hard for you, but it was supposed to be.
And seriously the promy's arnt that hard. Note the 1/1 Dem and Holla that we have had on recent runs that I've organized. On holla we went with a weird setup and still owned it. 2.5 is much harder, but still doable. You have to be willing to work for it.
From what Im getting from you, the stuff drops like hotcakes in Raids. Blizzard made that game too easy. You're bored with the content already im guessing because its too easy. Blizzard needs to give players a bigger challange, not more grinding for exp.
Also a little more content would be enjoyable. Story and such.. thats not in quest giver windows...
Sure it may have been fun, but it would have been a lot better, from my standpoint, if they didnt up the level cap and if they would add more cutscenes (like the intro's) and make it harder to get epic drops.
<Tarureaper> Decent Story {Can I have it?} <Blizzard> Go play Starcraft

Well, these are all opinions. Yours and mine. There is a lot of story, a lot more background than FFXI ever had because of the previous WoW games. However, the story scope is much larger in FFXI than in WoW. Six one, half a dozen the other.
No gear in any MMO is difficult to get once there are strategies and you learn an encounter. Our first few clears of MC were incredibly difficult, until we got it on farm, then it was fairly easy. Our trips through BWL are still incredibly difficulty because one encounter especially is very twitchy and another changes from week to week. AQ40 and Naxx are even more difficult. Epic gear drops from every boss, at least 2 or 3 pieces, but those bosses are hard and take many tries of wiping, possibly even needing to come back the next week, and the next again, using consumables and paying repair bills. There's nothing "easy" about it.
Every game is different and has its good points and its bad points. People who complain about WoW's "bad" points usually are those who haven't experienced them first hand and their opinions carry less weight with me. I never make opinions on anything in FFXI that I haven't experienced myself. You should do the same about WoW.
You play what you want, I play what I want. Let's not take this thread any more off topic than it already is.

Yep...I think they seriously did steal the "chocobo" idea...because they do look pretty similar. >_> But, what fantasy RPG series (online or not) doesn't steal anything from FF these days? lol

You have no idea. The blood elf male emotes kind of make them out to be "pretty boys", who are concerned about their looks, fashion and the like. When one of the /flirt emotes is "Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me", yeah...I won't go into it. Needless to say, if I ever play a blood elf, it will be female. >_> Valley girl > gay elf (no offense to gay elfs out there).
