As I make the transition from level 60 content to true end-game content (yes, there is a difference), I get to start obtaining epic gear.
Now, I already have two pieces of epic gear - one is a necklace that is obtained through the Darkmoon Faire, which took me six months to farm the items needed to turn in for the 1200 faire tickets needed to purchase the necklace. The other is what we call tier 0.5 gear, and upgrade from the small end-game dungeon class sets. The gloves of that set are epic.
But, anyone can get and has those. They're obtainable outside of raiding.
We were doing a Zul'Gurub run the other day - a 20-man instance, rather difficult to down some bosses. Only two bosses in the instance drop epic loot on a regular basis - Bloodlord Mandokir and the final boss, Hakkar himself. We haven't gotten to the point where we can down Hakkar, but we've killed all the other bosses in ZG.
One, Bloodlord Mandokir, was fairly easy to bring down and he dropped this the other day: www.thottbot.com/?i=51563
There were four hunters in the raid, but two of them used guns as their main weapon, so they didn't roll. Me and this other hunter rolled. He rolled a 2, I rolled a 68. I won the bow - the first dropped epic that I've obtained and that you actually have to be in the raiding party who downed that boss to obtain, because it is Soulbound to whoever gets it.
We normally use a point system to see who gets certain loot, and if that was in effect on this run, I would not have gotten it. But, this was a non-points fun run of ZG, so we just basically roll on anything we can use.
There's a picture of that bow in the link above, but I'll try to get a picture of me wielding it from when we run Molten Core again over the next couple days.
Getting this item would be comparable probably to getting the hardest pieces of AF2 from a Dynamis run. The drop rate of this bow is very low, I'm the only one in our guild who has it, and someone the other day said I'm probably only one of twenty or thirty people who has that bow on the entire server. Its pretty nice. ;D
Also, to Guin, how is your paladin treating you? I wish you were on my server, so I could help you out getting some Lightforge stuff. And, my guild could use more paladins!
